Hays Medical Center recently named George Harms as the new vice president/chief financial officer. He will be directly responsible for finance, material management and health information management.

Harms recently moved from his position as CFO at Good Samaritan Health Systems in Kearney, Neb. He has been in the health care field for 27 years.

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's of business administration in operations management.

"Hospital finances are complicated," Harms said. "Hospital finances are a complicated business, but it has been a rewarding career professionally. And it has been very exciting getting to do it."

Harms moved with his wife, Jana, and youngest son, Joseph, 17. He has two older sons, Jimmy, 21, and Dennis, 19. Both attend school in Nebraska.

"This hospital has a great reputation," Harms said. "The people here are great. It's going to be interesting working with them and getting to know the community. My family and I are excited about the opportunity at the hospital, as well as the opportunity with the community."

Harms still is in the process of settling in but said he is looking forward to the new environment.

"Any time you get into a new job, you have a huge change," Harms said. "It's a great hospital, especially for a community of this size. It's going to be really exciting to get involved."
