Nicodemus plans quilt celebration
The Nicodemus Historical Society and the Nicodemus National Historic Site are sponsoring a Day of the Quilt Celebration exhibit, program and workshop beginning Saturday at the visitor center.
The exhibit continues through March 15 and will include nearly 20 historic quilts made by the women of Nicodemus.
Visitors will be able to help create their own quilt block for a quilt that will be made in honor of the even.
The quilt program and workshop is planned for 1 p.m. March 8 and will feature a series of speakers and quilters, including Rosa Stokes, Pearlena Moore, Florence Howard, Angela Bates and Esther Clark.
They will be availalbe after to help participants create the quilt blocks, which will be assembled by the women of Nicodemus and auctioned off druing the Nicodemus Emancipation/Homecoming celebration in July.
