Nicodemus plans homecoming event


NICODEMUS -- The 136th Nicodemus Emancipation-Homecoming celebration begins Thursday with a meet and greet.

The event gets into full swing Friday with welcome reception followed by a jazz concert from 7 to 10 p.m. with Spirit of Grace.

At 9 p.m. Thursday, a 5K Glow Run is planned, followed by a dance at 10 p.m.

Saturday's activities are the highlight of the event, starting with a 8:30 a.m. pancake breakfast with a $2 donation, an 11 a.m. parade, a 2 p.m. fashion and talent show, a 5 p.m. watermelon feed, a 7 to 9 p.m. gospel event, a 7 to 10 p.m. jazz concert and a 10 p.m. dance with fireworks at dark.

The University of Kansas Medical School will be conducting free screenings through the day.

Saturday's activities include an old-fashioned ball game between the Nicodemus Blues II and the Hodgeman 9.

Sunday's activities include a 10:30 a.m. First Baptist Church Service with the Rev. Raymond Groves, from Rapture Baptist Church in Denver, officiating.

There is a community dinner at 1 p.m. in the Township Hall. Admission is $5 for children, $10 for adults.
