Hays police investigating rape report
The Hays Police Department is in the preliminary stages of investigating a rape report filed at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday.
That report was made by an 18-year-old woman who apparently had been walking home alone after leaving the Wild Rose, according to Assistant Police Chief Brian Dawson.
He said the woman reported being grabbed from behind, forced to the ground and assaulted by an individual only identified as a white male.
Dawson said the investigator in the case was planning to talk to the woman again Tuesday to try to gain additional information.
While details still are being gathered, both Dawson and Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said the incident is a reminder people need to use caution.
They both urged residents to remain aware of their surroundings, travel in a group or use the free Safe Ride program.
Safe Ride buses operate from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturday.
