LaRue at Singers

Country musician Stoney LaRue will perform at 9 p.m. Aug. 21 at Singers in Hays.

The Texas Regional Radio Awards named LaRue male vocalist of the year, and he also won album of the year. Often labeled as a red-dirt musician, the Oklahoma-native blends country, folk and rock in his tunes.

LaRue said his influences include Ray Charles, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. His concerts can be a "roller coaster" of emotions, LaRue said.

The performer said he leaves it to listeners to interpret his music.

"Paint the masterpiece, and let's see who can get it or not," he said.

Spending 16 years on the road for his career has shaped his music. People who are unable to travel can "live vicariously" through his songs, he said.

LaRue encouraged new listeners to attend his show for a relaxing night.

"A lot of smiles. Hopefully see thought provocation, and ultimately let go of your fears, your worries, come out and just enjoy yourself," he said.

Attendees must be  at least 18 years old. Go to www.ticketstorm.com/venue/singers/hays/1461 for more information.
