Taco Shop will have fundraiser for ailing teacher

Monday nights normally aren't the busiest ones of the week for Taco Shop in Hays.
Co-owner Bob Keener expects that to change tonight.
A fundraiser is planned for Bill Maddy, a popular teacher at Hays Middle School was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this fall.
"There's a lot of support out there for (Maddy)," Keener said.
Maddy has taught in Hays USD 489 for more than 25 years, and students and teachers in the district began coming up with ways to help him out financially almost immediately upon learning of his illness.
One of those is tonight's fundraiser at the Taco Shop, 333 W. Eighth. Fifteen percent of the sales from 5 to 11 will go to Maddy to help with medical and travel expenses. Taco Shop features dine in and carry out; it also delivers call-in orders -- (785) 625-7114.
Keener said that "business definitely picks up with" fundraisers, so he has scheduled extra help for the night.
"It's for a good cause," he said, "... excited to see how it does."
