Pedestrian struck, killed by train

At 12:07 a.m. Thursday, the Hays Police Department received a report from Union Pacific Railroad that a pedestrian had been struck by a train near the Oak Street crossing in Hays. Officers responded to the scene and confirmed that a 22-year-old male had been struck and killed by an eastbound Union Pacific train.
The victim is a Hays resident, Jacob Lee Corwin. The incident was investigated by the Ellis County Coroner's office, Hays Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad.
All of the railroad crossings between the Rome Street crossing and Vine Street were blocked by the train throughout the incident. First responders from the Hays Fire Department, Ellis County Sheriff's Department and Ellis County EMS also responded to assist with the incident.
