A series of flood warnings issued as rain moved out of Colorado into northwest Kansas were allowed to expire this morning.
Only a single warning remained in place, that one covering part of Ness County -- where more than an inch of rain fell. Weather radio even reported approximately 5 inches of rain had fallen north of Ransom, located in the northern portion of Ness County.
The biggest rains, however, were in Trego and Gove counties. The flood warning there was allowed to expire as the rain moved through. Portions of southern Trego County reported rains ranging from 3.27 inches to 4 inches, according to CoCoRaHs -- the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network
No reports of hail were sent to the Storm Prediction Center, but a few instances of high winds were observed.
Two miles north of Atwood in Rawlins County, a downburst caused winds of 63 mph.
A report of a 59-mph gust came from Norton, and Hill City in Graham County reported a 62-mph gust Wednesday night.
While moisture cooled the temperature during the night, forecasts called for them to rise near 90 this afternoon. Then, more storms are expected, with some bringing additional heavy rains. The chance of rain is 30 percent, with some storms producing large hail and high winds.
The wet weather is expected to continue into the weekend as well.
On Friday, the National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms early in the morning.
Then it is expected to clear off and reach a high near 90 again.
But after 4 p.m., more storms are expected, with some possibly being severe -- including large hail up to tennis-ball size, damaging winds and possibly a tornado.
The chance of precipitation is 60-percent.
Saturday's outlook shows a 50-percent chance of showers or thunderstorms, with some producing locally heavy rain and frequent lightning. Highs will be in the lower 90s.
A 30-percent chance of showers and storms exists for Saturday night. Heavy rain could fall again in the storms.
