Alphonse A. "Al" Pfeifer, 96, La Crosse, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Victoria to Anthony J. and Rosa (Dreiling) Pfeifer.

He married Mary M. Walters on Oct. 6, 1942, in Hays. She preceded him in death Aug. 4, 2004.

He graduated from Victoria High School in 1934. He was the owner/operator of La Crosse Farm Equipment from 1957 to 1993.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force as a staff sergeant and aircraft mechanic from 1942 to 1945.

Survivors include a daughter, Monica Halbleib and husband, Chuck, Ness City; two granddaughters, Erin Denger and husband, Todd, Wichita, and Anita Halbleib, La Crosse; two brothers, Wilfred A. "Willie" Pfeifer, Victoria, and Robert A. Pfeifer, Hays; and four sisters, Rose Phannenstiel, Benton, Esther Maher, Great Bend, and Albertine Rawjeski and Wilma VonLintel, both of Victoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marybeth Pfeifer; two brothers, Herbert A. "Harry" Pfeifer and Edmund A. "Ed" Pfeifer; and a sister, Angeline Kaltenbach.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; interment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse, or the Alphonse A. "Al" Pfeifer Memorial Fund.

Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.
