Alfred A. Thomas, 89, Hays, died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Hays Good Samaritan Society in Hays.

He was born March 4, 1923, in Kansas to Samuel and Flose (Maples) Thomas.

He married June Wolf on March 29, 1942, in Smith County. He worked for Hardman Lumber Co. for 40 years and later was a janitor at Hays USD 489 for 10 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Hays; a son, Tom Thomas and wife, Deanna, Hays; a sister, Margaret DeBey, Garden City; two grandchildren, Troy Thomas and Misty Rockenfield and husband, Scott, all of Seattle; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Sam Thomas; and two sisters, Audrey Hull and Louise Wilcoxson.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Gaylord Cemetery.

Friends can call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, and will include veterans services by Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion at 6:45 p.m.
