Alfred J. 'Fritz' Dreiling

Alfred J. "Fritz" Dreiling, 81, Victoria, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Victoria to Alphonse J. and Sophie (Sander) Dreiling. He was a 1949 graduate of Victoria High School. He graduated from Fort Hays State College.

He married Myrna (Tapp) on June 3, 1957, in Victoria. She preceded him in death June 15, 2007. He was a farmer and an independent oil operator. He worked for the IRS for 13 years and then for Producers Gas for eight years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751, both of Victoria. He was a past member of the Victoria School Board, St. John's Rest Home Board of Directors and Ellis County United Way Board.

Survivors include two sons, John "Mike" Dreiling, Victoria, and Bart Dreiling and wife, Kimberly, Shawnee; four daughters, Carrie Mitchell and husband, William M., Scottsdale, Ariz., Theresa Dreiling and husband, Bruce Niemi, Tulsa, Okla., Anne Dreiling, Denver, and Julie Dzierzawski, and husband, Joseph, Pittsburg; four brothers, Marvin O. Dreiling and wife, Dorothy, Hays, Charles Dreiling and Tom Dreiling, both of Victoria, and Jim Dreiling, Denver; two sisters, Lucy Roth and husband, Bob, Wichita, and Theresa Ellis and husband, Clark, Lafayette, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Dreiling, Victoria; a brother-in-law, Will Dell, Littleton, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer Dreiling and Hubert Dreiling; and three sisters, Lorraine Bird, Ruth Stephens and Mary Ellen Dell.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; a private family inurnment will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671.

A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a VFW and Class of 1949 rosary at 8 p.m., all at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Fidelis Catholic Church or Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the mortuary.
