Alice M. Staab, 85, Hays, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Via Christi Assisted Living, Hays.

She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Hays to Alex and Josephine (Karlin) Leikam. She attended elementary school in Buckeye and graduated from Hays Public High School.  

She married Walter J. Staab on Sept. 26, 1949, in Severin. She worked at Farmers State Bank and First National Bank, both in Hays, for a total of 20 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, cross stitch, upholstery, embroidery, lace making, sewing draperies, and she was a clothing seamstress. She also enjoyed collecting angels.

Survivors include her husband, of the home in Hays; two daughters, Terri Stanton and husband, Loren, Prairie Village, and Deanne Wakefield and husband, William, Wichita; two sons, Doug W. Staab and wife, Lisa, Holcomb, and Kevin W. Staab and wife, Carol, Hays; a brother, Vernon Leikam; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Staab; her parents; six brothers, William "Bill" Leikam, Alvin Leikam, Robert "Bob" Leikam, Francis "Frank" Leikam, Norman Leikam, and Edgar "Eddie" Leikam; and two sisters, Severina Dreiling and Lucille Erbert.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; burial in St. Catherine Cemetery, Catherine.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A VFW Auxiliary service will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at 6:30 p.m., both at the funeral home.  

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
