Alice Marie Gabel

Alice Marie Gabel, 83, Ellis, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center.

She was born June 29, 1926, in rural Trego County to Henry and Carrie (Elliot) Nejdl. She graduated from Trego Community High School.

She married John Joseph Gabel on April 10, 1945, in Ellis. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 1996. She was a homemaker and farmer working on the family farm.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella serving as a regent and a member of the Extension Homemakers Unit.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Gabel and wife, Mary Jo, Springfield, Mo.; five daughters, Virginia Schoenthaler and husband, Denny, and Christine Gammon, all of Ellis, Wanda Baldwin and husband, Garry, Ozark, Mo., Sharon Boone and husband, Don, Springfield, Mo., and Angela Currier and husband, Jim, Concordia; two sisters, Dorothy Miller, Great Bend, and Ellen Rockwell, Grapevine, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Archie Nejdl.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in St. Mary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis.

A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today, followed by a wake at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Ellis Good Samaritan Center or Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.

Goodby to a great lady, my mother-in-law and grandmother of my children. You will be missed but never forgotten. We loved you before and will always love you. You are in God's hands.
