Alice May (Kleinschmidt) Harris, 101, Minneola, formerly of Hays, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Minneola Long Term Care.

She attended school in Plainville and completed grammar school in Chicago.

She was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Rooks County to August L. "Gus" and Emma I. (Markel) Kleinschmidt.

She married Rueben David "Buck" Harris on April 29, 1932, in Hays. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1954. She retired from Hadley Hospital in Hays after working many years in the dietary department.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and moved to Hays in 1941.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, the Kansas City Royals, Western movies, canning, making noodles, baking and especially cookies. She enjoyed visiting yard sales, gardening and starting African violets, her family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Richard "Butch" and wife, Sandy, Minneola; two daughters-in-law, Judy Harris, Wichita, and Mary Lee Harris, Protection; a sister-in-law, Ellen Kleinschmidt, Plainville; 12 grandchildren, Jolie Johnson, Joel Johnson, Julia Grayson, Marcie Charles, Mitch Harris, Mindy Applegate, Delaina Downs, Darris Harris, Michele Stoddard, Michael Harris, Matthew Harris and Mitchel Harris; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Hattie; two sons, Jack Harris and David Harris; two brothers, Clarence Kleinschmidt and Roy Kleinschmidt; a sister, Mable Jones; and two infant grandchildren, Jamie Harris and Janie Harris.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Seventh and Ash, Hays; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Minneola Long Term Care or Hospice of the Prairie/Dodge City.

Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601, is in care of arrangements.
