Althea M. Collins Groom, 92, Hays, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Hays Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Plainville to Wilburn Ora and Ethel (Lacy) Collins. She was a graduate of Plainville High School and attended the Methodist church in Council Grove during her years there.

She married Perry Groom on July 18, 1939. He preceded her in death in April 1987. She later married Roe Groom on April 10, 1988. He preceded her in death in May 2001. She was a shipping clerk for Ampex Corp. and Emerson Electric, both in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Survivors include a son, Ricky Groom, Plainville; a daughter, Ronna Hockett Simpson, Plainville; two stepsons, Glenn "Duke" Groom, San Antonio, and Kenneth Groom, Kent, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Lois Hylton, Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Beals; and a stepdaughter, Dorothy Radke.

Cremation has taken place, and private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Hays Good Samaritan Society in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.
