Amy JoAnn Kvasnicka, 45, Lawrence, formerly of Lucas, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

She was born May 20, 1969, in Russell to Roger and Virginia (Cochran) Kvasnicka. She was a graduate of Lucas-Luray High School and the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree, majoring in both English and Spanish. She attended Washburn University to acquire her teaching degree, and later she obtained her master's of liberal art's degree from Baker University.

She was a teacher at Sumner Academy, where she taught Spanish for more than 17 years.

Survivors include her mother, Virginia "Ginger" Langdon, Lucas; her father, Lucas; a brother, Jeremy Kvasnicka, Lucas; a sister, Emily Bretz, Spokane, Wash.; and a stepsister, Erin Streit.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lucas United Methodist Church; burial in Lucas City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Amy Kvasnicka Memorial Fund benefiting Sumner Academy in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.
