Arbutus Schuvie

Arbutus Schuvie, 91, Hays, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at her home.

She was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Bunker Hill to Henry Francis and Jessie (Gosser) Payne.

She married Wilfred P. Schuvie. He preceded her in death. She was a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Hospital and trained on the job to become a nurse’s assistant. She retired after 43 years of service.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Chris Danaher, Lake in the Hills, Ill., Pam Copp, Wichita, and Judy Tabler, Blanchard, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Jessica P. Max, Jennifer L. Copp, LaGretia L. Copp, Justin M. Schuvie, Matthew P. Schuvie, Jason N. Juhan and Amanda J. Schuvie; and six great-grandchildren, Holden Mayfield, Hunter Mayfield, Jordan Juhan, Jazmin Juhan, Madison Bell and Aaron Knight-Schuvie.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory H. Schuvie; a daughter, Karen T. Schuvie; and three sisters, Mildred F. Hall, Kathleen L. Payne and Selma M. Rome.

Private family graveside services will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Memorials are suggested to Karen T. Schuvie Memorial Fund or Cancer Council of Ellis County.

Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, is in charge of arrangements.
