Areta Eileen Hartman, 71, Utica, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Ness County Hospital.

She was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Ransom to Herman Oscar and Hazel Hoch Ummel.

She married Norman Hartman on Dec. 26, 1961, in Utica. He preceded her in death May 13, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Hartman and wife, Darlene Walker, Hays, and Kenneth Hartman, Utica; two daughters, Pamela Ice and husband, Kevin, Lynnville, Ind., and Sandra Hartman, Utica; a brother, Gary Ummel, Harper; two sisters, Alice Hobbs, Inman, and Anna Meis and husband, Zane, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Edwards.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City; burial in Ransom Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Areta Hartman Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
