Armella M. (Stramel) Gosch, 86, Garden City, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita.

She was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Hays to Ned and Barbara (Jacobs) Stramel. She grew up with her family in Pfeifer. She later graduated from St. Francis Nursing School, Wichita.

She married Verle Butler on Jan. 3, 1949, in Deerfield. She was a registered nurse at St. Catherine Hospital for several years before going to work at Kearny County Hospital for 36 years. She retired as a registered nurse at Kearny County Hospital. She lived in Deerfield until 1980 when she moved to Lakin. In the early 1990s, she moved to Garden City.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, the Dominican Sisters, Great Bend, Altar Society, the Elks Lodge, and RSVP.

She enjoyed handiwork and volunteering at various organizations in Garden City.

Survivors include six children, Elaine Wainscott, Kansas City, Kan., Barbara Hiatt, Tulsa, Okla., Terry Butler and Steven Butler, both of Deerfield, Kerry Butler, Garden City, and Jody Ledford, Cimarron; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Katherine Butler; and a son, Verle "Bill" Butler.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City; graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 28 in Deerfield Cemetery.

Friends can call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Catholic Church or St. Catherine Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.
