Arthur Rudolph Koch, 84, Russell, formerly of Arvada, Colo., and Sun City, Ariz., died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 3, 1928, near Ault, Colo., to Philip and Caroline (Miller) Koch.

He married Doris Karst on June 11, 1950, in Milberger. She preceded him in death June 2, 1990. He resided in Russell for 20 years and worked in the oilfields before becoming an appliance technician for Deines Brothers Furniture. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry Division and later in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Survivors include a son, Kurtis Koch, Great Bend; two sisters, Irene Ernst, Lebanon, Pa., and Julia Koch Fraser, Fullerton, Calif.; two grandsons; and his companion, Mary Huffman.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell; burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Russell, with military rites by  Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240.  

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Wheatland Nursing Center, Russell, in care of the mortuary.
