Athol Charles Enos 'Ace' Barton

Athol Charles Enos "Ace" Barton, 94, Russell, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Main Street Manor, Russell.

He was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Hooker, Okla., to Milton and Lucy (Goodnough) Barton.  He was a 1939 graduate of Russell High School.

He married Leah Strain on June 21, 1946, in California. She preceded him in death in December 2000. He and his brother started Barton Brothers Oil Co. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include a son, Lonnie Barton, Hays; a daughter, Vickie Brown, DeSoto, Texas; a sister, Margene Goettel, Salina; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Russell; burial in Russell City Cemetery, with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
