Roy Kenneth Atkisson, 89, Wichita, where he resided with his son for his final years, and former Hays resident of 45 years, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Wichita.
He was born May 7, 1920, in Grenada, Colo. to Sidney Earl and Pansy Marie Atkisson.
He married Leona B. Reuber on Sept. 19, 1944, in Leon. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 2006. He was a retired oil field worker. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
He was an avid fisherman.
He was a member of the Hays, Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a son, Steven Atkisson, Wichita; two sisters, Julia Somers, Mandeville, La., and Vera Kaser, Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Atkisson, and a sister, Loretta Holt.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery with military services by Hays VFW.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas, Wichita, in care of the funeral home.
