Bernice Tholen Jackson, 89, Hays, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born July 29, 1923, in Oakley to Henry and Cora (Daugherty) Tholen.

She worked for the board of education in Wichita for 40 years. She was a caregiver to her disabled husband and mother. She enjoyed Kansas and lived through the Dust Bowl and Great Depression.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

Survivors include a son, Willis Aaron and wife, Antoinette, Golden, Colo.; two sisters, Lucille Jennings, Hays, and Loretta Jamison, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Lisa Schwarm, Steven Jackson and wife, MaryEllen, and Elizabeth Simpson and husband, Dean; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Jackson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial with graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Cemetery, Oakley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A vigil will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, or St. Joseph Cemetery, Oakley, in care of the funeral home.
