Darlene S. (Wiens) Baldwin, 99, Hays, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born July 15, 1913, in Hutchinson to David and Fern (Tharp) Wiens. She graduated from Medford High School, Medford, Okla., and attended Philips University, Enid, Okla.

She married Sherwood "Squeak" Lawson in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1947. She later married Robert E. Showalter in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1951. She later married James W. Baldwin in 1956. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was a teacher in Medford and Valley Center.

During World War II, she was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol. She enjoyed her family, reading, flying, traveling, gardening and growing herbs and flowers.

Survivors include a son, David Lawson and wife, Jan, Granbury Texas; a daughter, Teresa Witthuhn and husband, Eldon, Hays; eight grandchildren, Jake Lawson, Austin, Texas, Kiri Martin (Simon), Laguna Beach, Calif., Erica Henderson (Troy), San Antonio, Amy Cook (Miles), WaKeeney, Sarah McCarty (Chad), Hays, Kelly Witthuhn, Denver, Ryan Shrader (fiance Kandra Craig), Montrose, Colo., and Jonathan Witthuhn, Hays; and eight great-grandchildren, Hayden and Carson Cook, WaKeeney, Katelynn and Ethan McCarty, Hays, Chloe Shrader, Montrose, and Alexis, Trinity and Aleyah Henderson, San Antonio; and her beloved cat, Skitzy.

Private family services and burial will be at a later date in Medford.

Memorials are suggested to Humane Society of the High Plains in care of Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601.
