Barbara (Johnson) Lawnicki, 57, Lakewood, Calif., died Feb. 26, 2007, at Hospice, La Mirada, Calif.
She was born Aug. 1, 1949, in Hays to Peter W. and Georganna (Grass) Johnson. She graduated from Hays High School and Fort Hays State University. She received degrees from Pueblo University, Pueblo, Mexico, and Cal State University, Los Angeles.
She was a teacher in North Platte, Neb., a student counselor at Hastings College, Hastings, Neb., and Iowa Western Community College, Council Bluffs, Iowa. The last 20 years she was a counselor for Los Angeles County office of educations, where she worked with high school students.
She was an musician and enjoyed the French horn in symphony orchestras where she resided. She taught foreign languages, as well as American Sign Language.
She enjoyed riding horses and traveling the world. She was a brown belt karate student. She was active in her son's school and in community-supported charities.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include her husband, Jerzy Lawnicki; a son, Timothy; two brothers, Bruce Johnson and wife, Deborah, Colby, and Peter D. Johnson and wife, Rhonda, Abilene; a sister, Kathryn Johnson, Whittier, Calif.; her aunts, Lily Georgene Johnson, Hays, and Ruth Lynn Jaworski, Walnut Creek, Calif.; her mother-in-law, Halina Lawnicki, Warsaw, Poland; a sister-in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Mroczek and husband, Chris, Birmingham, Ala.; a niece, Margaret Mroczek, Atlanta; and three cousins, Douglas Kingsley, Branson, Mo., Roger Kingsley, Ellis, and Timothy Kingsley, Hays.
Her ashes were put to rest July 7 in Columbarium of Mount Allen Cemetery.
