Bessie Ruth Mead, 100, Salina, formerly of Zurich, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center, Salina.

She was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Morland to Jesse and Heseltine "Tiny" (Sparks) Stithem.

She married Floyd Albert Mead on Oct. 28, 1940, in Goodland. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1986. She was a cook at Zurich school for 20 years.

She was a member of Zurich United Methodist Church and Palco United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Freida Dice and husband, Charles, Topeka, and Audry Hover and husband, William, Salina; a sister, Stella Michael and husband, Bill, Deer Trail, Colo.; two grandchildren, Sara Ditch and husband, Scott, Topeka, and Misty Anderson and husband, Jamie, Salina; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Anderson and Ava Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Palco United Methodist Church; burial in Zurich Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 S.W. Second, Plainville, KS 67663.

Memorials are suggested to Palco United Methodist Church or Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center in care of the funeral home.
