Betty Lou Pokorny, 85, Hays, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Via Christi Village, Hays.

She was born March 30, 1927, in Clay County to Joseph Howard and Mabel Margaret (Murphy) Yeager.

She married Dr. Robert Pokorny in 1987 in Hays. She worked in a business office as a computer operator.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hays.

Survivors include her husband, Hays; five sons, Channing D. Schwartz and wife, Connie, Alliance, Neb., Dennis R. Schwartz and wife, Kathy, Midland, Texas, Frank E. Schwartz and wife, Nancy, Liberal, Jack M. Schwartz and wife, Mary, Salina, and Bill Pokorny and wife, Joyce, Longmont, Colo.; three daughters, Deanna Groen and husband, Fred, Boston, Linda McLean and husband, Mark, Kansas City, Kan., and Julia Thornburg and husband, Alan, Scott City; two sisters, Lorraine Bramwell and Alberta Smith, both of Concordia; 26 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery.

Friends can call from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in her name and memory with First United Methodist Church, Hays, in care of the funeral home.
