Bill Jim Hopper, 81, Salina and formerly of Russell, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Presbyterian Manor, Salina.
He was born July 19, 1930, in Cotter, Ark., to Eatman and Essie (Thomas) Hopper. He grew up in the Gassville, Ark., and Cotter area and graduated from Cotter High School.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed at Fort Chaffee.
He married Clara Lucille Cox on April 4, 1953, in Mountain Home, Ark. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 1995.
He was the owner and operator of the Bill Hopper Ford dealership for more than 25 years in Russell.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Hansen, Brookville, and Leanna Felix, Ottawa; two brothers, Bobby Hopper, Springdale, Ark., and Buddy Hopper, Dorrance; a sister, Beverly Morton, Mountain Home; three grandchildren, Michael Hansen, Jessica Crocker and Brian Felix; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Felix.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Hopper, a daughter, Donna Hopper, and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; burial in Russell City Cemetery with military rites conducted by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Russell County Area Community Foundation. Contributions and condolences can be sent in care of the mortuary.
