Billy Collins, 75, Dodge City, formerly of Ellinwood, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his home.

He was born Jan. 24, 1938, at Welfare Island, N.Y. He was adopted by Anthony and Delia Dunnigan Collins on Oct. 10, 1944.

He married Patricia Hammersmith on Nov. 23, 1957, in Topeka. He later married Linda Williams on June 16, 1995, in Dodge City. He was a truck driver for Chaffin Inc. in Dodge City, retiring in 2002. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and ABATE, both in Dodge City, as well as being a ham radio operator.

He enjoyed riding and tinkering on motorcycles and was a motorcycle instructor.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, William "Bill" Collins, Burlington, N.C., Roger Collins, Garden City, and Steven McFarling, Grand Coulee, Wash.; four daughters, Kelly Baker and Tracy Menges and husband, Mark, all of Ellinwood, Patty Collins, Great Bend, and Stacey Stults and husband, Steve, Hays; a sister, Delores McGann, Delaware; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his two dogs, Maxi and Annie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Murphy and Ann Gentile; a brother, Mickey Collins; and a daughter-in-law, Verna Collins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City; burial in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Ford County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
