C. Beth Tier, 94, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Andbe Home, Norton.
She was born Feb. 21, 1920, south of Alma, Neb., to Frederick Louis and Elva Hazel (Ault) Ziegler. She attended elementary school at Golden Rod School No. 58 and was a 1936 graduate of Alma High School. She taught school while attending Midland College, graduating magna cum laude in 1944.
She married Joseph Tier in 1946, making their first home in York, Neb. He preceded her in death. They also lived in Alma and Hastings, Neb., Almena, and later moved to Norton in 1964. She taught school in Almena for 10 years and worked at Norton State Hospital for 10 years. She later worked at Norton Correctional Facility as a teacher in the education department and at Andbe Home for several years
She was a member of Norton First United Methodist Church, UMW, Avon Federated Club and the Norton Business and Professional Women.
She enjoyed playing piano, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include seven children, Anna Luhman, Hays, Betty Jo Luhman and husband, Lyle, Natoma, Frances Tatkenhorst and husband, Allen, Cuba, Mo., Jane Hrabik and husband, Jay, Lyons, Noel Tier and wife, Geneva, Norton, Evan and wife, Lisa, Great Bend, and Margaret Wyatt and husband, Richard, Norton; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wayne and Keith Ziegler.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Norton; burial in Alma Cemetery, Alma, Neb.
Friends can call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Enfield Funeral Home, Norton
