Elbert Eugene "Al" Custine, 80, El Dorado Springs, Mo., died Monday, July 30, 2012, at Nevada Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1932, south of Logan to Powderly Arthur and Mary Matilda (Galyan) Custine. He attended elementary and grade school in western Kansas and completed his high school freshman year at Hill City. He later finished his high school education while in the Air Force.

He did auto body repair and painting on and off throughout his life. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was stationed in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. His first job as a professional pilot was crop-dusting, which he did throughout the next 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie; two daughters, Denise Fox and husband, Robert, Harwood, Mo., and Leslie Roberts and husband, Justin, Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Darla Custine Beasley and husband, Bob, Clifton, Colo.; five grandchildren; an uncle, Fred Barber and wife, Georgine, Hays; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank, Richard and Jerry; two sisters, Marie Custine and Doris White; two nephews, Darrol Hodge and James White.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nevada Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
