Darral Lee "Mac" McAfee, 93, Hays, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Via Christi Village, Hays

He was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Sedan to Dennis and Nancy "Tuckie" (McKey) McAfee. He was a 1937 graduate of Sedan High School.

He married Thelma Mae Keith on June 28, 1947, in Hill City. He worked 36 years as a pumper/roustabout for Continental Oil Co. (Conoco), working in Rooks and Ellis counties and later in Carter County, Okla., and Libya. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a former member of First Christian Church, Plainville, and a life member of Hugo Cherry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1192 in Duncan, Okla.

Survivors include his wife, Hays; two daughters, Kathy Spicer and husband, Pat, Hays, and Karen Ross and husband, Ken, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and two grandsons, Geoffrey Ross, Fort Wayne, and Ethan Ross, Grand Rapids, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine; graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Via Christi Village, Hays, Disabled American Veterans or Veterans of Foreign Wars in care of the funeral home.
