Deborah A. ‘Debbie’ Howard, 54, Hays, died Friday, April 18, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 29, 1959, in Hays to Gerald and Rosaline (Hoffman) Gottschalk. She attended North Central Kansas Technical College in Hays, studying computers, bookkeeping and data processing.

She married Gary Howard on April 19, 1980, in Hays. She was an office manager at LINK in Hays for many years.

She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, was artistic and enjoyed painting. She loved the outdoors and cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a brother, Mike Gottschalk and wife, Lori, Hays; a stepbrother, Cam Clark and wife, Esther, Wichita; a sister, Sue Gottschalk, Hays; three stepsisters, Crista Dorsey and husband, Floyd, Emporia, Jan Miller and husband, Mike, Kansas City, and Stacy Driver and husband, Kenton, Salina; her stepfather, Keith Clark, Hays; her mother-in-law, Lanelle Howard, Las Cruces, N.M.; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Howard, Las Cruces, and Linda Wise and husband, Ervin, Burleson, Texas; a brother-in-law, Rick Howard, Austin, Texas; two nephews, Michael Howard and Cole Gottschalk; a niece, Rachel Gottschalk; and her beloved dog, Sonny.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald, in 1975; and her mother, Rose, in 2013.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Humane Society of the High Plains or to her family in care of the funeral home.
