Delbert Eugene Landis

Delbert (Deb) Eugene Landis, 97, Wichita, formerly of Fairport and Russell, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Life Care Center, Wichita.

He was born March 16, 1916, in Rose Hill to David Delta and Alta Mary (Gagan) Landis. In 1925, his family moved to Fairport, where he attended grade school and high school. He married Veta Lorene Robertson on Sept. 7, 1940. She preceded him in death. He was a pumper for Sohio Oil Co. (Standard Oil of Ohio) until his retirement in 1975. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving at the end of World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include a son, Donald Landis, Bethany, Okla.; a daughter, Virginia Maddox and husband, Kenneth, Wichita; three grandsons, David Maddox, Dale Maddox and David Landis; a granddaughter, Denise Maddox; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Waldo, Francis (Jiggs), Ardine and Russell; a sister, Talma; and two sons, D. Charles and Delmar Landis.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine; burial in Fairport Cemetery, located 11 miles north of Gorham.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
