Coyle "Junebug" Detherage Jr., 69, Altus, Ark., formerly of Great Bend, died Monday, March 8, 2010, after a short battle with cancer in the Veteran's Hospital of Oklahoma City.
He was born April 10, 1940, in Altus to Coyle and Daisy Detherage.
He married Gloria Raquel Marquez in 1964. He later married Carla Sue Francis in 1988. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2007. He worked in the oil and trucking industry until retirement. He started his own trucking business, Detherage Trucking, and later returned to Altus to help care for his mother. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Naval training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. He was stationed in Honolulu throughout his naval career, and he was an amateur boxer for the U.S. Navy team.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and any activity that included his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, James Detherage and wife, Tanya, Plano, Texas, and Matthew Detherage and wife, Schamra, Hays; two daughters, Lisa Burkhart and husband, Kerry, Norman, Okla., and Pamela Perry and husband, Michael, Great Bend; two step-daughters, Carol Niedens and husband, Lyle, Westwood, and Lisa Francis, Great Bend; his mother, Altus; four brothers, Billy Ray Detherage and wife, Doris, Lawrence, James "Budjo" Detherage and wife, Arleta, Branson, Mo., Larry Detherage and wife, Kathy, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Ronnie Dale Detherage, Larned; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Lynelle, Mackenzie, Bryce, Logan, Aly, Chance and Drake; numerous nephews and nieces; his best buddy, Clay Julian, Altus; and many other friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Delores Joyce "Dot" Littlejohn; and a step-daughter, Lori Francis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend; burial in Great Bend Cemetery, with military honors by U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; family will receive friends following the vigil at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
An honorary social will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Great Bend.
Memorials are suggested to Faith Hospice, Norman, Okla., in care of the funeral home.
