Dolores "Toots" Schlyer, 84, Hays, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at her home.
She was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Hays to Richard J. and Molly Mary (Eichman) Dreiling.
She married Robert "Bob" Schlyer on Sept. 3, 1947, in Hays. She was a homemaker and worked as a district secretary for the Ellis County Conservation District for 29 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, both of Hays.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, volunteering at Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and Community Assistance Center, and her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Butch Schlyer and wife, Mary, and Skip Schlyer and wife, Nancy, all of Hays; three brothers, Donald Dreiling and wife, Dolores, Overland Park, Dean Dreiling and wife, Mickey, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Gene Dreiling and wife, Flo, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, JoAnn Jayjack, Florida; a sister-in-law, Donna Jean Dreiling, Hays; seven grandchildren, Robin Krenzel and husband, Troy, Amanda Ricketts and husband, Mark, Bret Schlyer and wife, Stacy, Jaime Cox and husband, Brent, Kirby Schlyer, Heather Hamilton and husband, Noah, and Nick Schlyer; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pamela Suzanne Diehl; three brothers, Norbert Dreiling, James Dreiling and Thomas Dreiling; and one sister, Mary Catherine Bieker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601.
A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in care of the mortuary.
