Dolores M. Newell, 76, Great Bend, formerly of Lyons, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at her home.

She was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Kingman County to John P. and Teresa L. (Meyeres) Prosser.

She married Mitchell Patrick "Mitch" Newell on Jan. 12, 1963, in Great Bend. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 1998. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the Barton County Extension office prior to retirement in 2012. She worked part-time for Kustom Floor Designs and United Way of Central Kansas.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, numerous card clubs, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Mark Newell and wife, Twila, Wichita; a daughter, Paula Mauler and husband, Curt, Great Bend; three brothers, Don Prosser and wife, Lorraine, Pratt, Les Prosser, Great Bend, and Charles Prosser, Houston; five grandchildren, Brittney Newell, Brandon Newell, Blake Newell, Sarah Mauler and Jenna Mauler; and a great-grandchild, Brynlee Newell.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services were Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend; burial in Great Bend Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School or United Way of Central Kansas in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.
