Donald Gene Weigel

Donald Gene Weigel, 82, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012.

He was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Hays to Marcus and Sophia (Nowak) Weigel. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy, Hays.

He married Charlene Walters on Nov. 15, 1949, in Hays. He retired after 37 years as a Dillion's grocer.

Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, of the home; two sons, Donald Weigel and wife, Mary, Hutchinson, and Dennis Weigel, Salina; two daughters, Kathleen Weigel, Topeka, and Karen Beil, Olathe; four brothers, Duane and wife, Marlene, and Mark and wife, Pauline, all of Hays, Dennis and wife, Paula, Adair, Iowa, and Robert and wife, Carol, Lawrence; and four sisters, Charlotte Jacobs and Cheryl Engle and husband, Joe, all of Hays, Donna Meyers and husband, Delaine, Great Bend, and Carol Brungardt, Wichita; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church; burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

Friends can call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

A vigil will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Parish in care of the mortuary.
