Donald John Giebler, 84, Hays, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Catharine to Martin and Susanna (Kisner) Giebler.

He married Dolores Kathleen Walters on Sept. 11, 1950, in Catharine. She preceded him in death May 15, 1999. He was a mechanic for 24 years, primarily with O'Loughlin Motor Sales and then began work as a postal clerk with the Hays post office, retiring after 24 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Catharine Knights of Columbus Council No. 11687, Perpetual Adoration Chapel and Hays American Legion.

Survivors include three daughters, Janese Base and husband, Don, Ellsworth, Jeannine Cordes and husband, Larry, Grand Island, Neb., and Jacinta Faber and husband, Paul, Hays; three brothers, Walter, Aurora, Colo., Charles Sr., Hays, and Marvin, Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Roman Giebler; five sisters, Martina Staab, Pauline Roy, Hermina Schulte, Lillian Meis and Lorraine Chintala; a grandson, Fredrick O'Donnell; and a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Nicole Base.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by Hays VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, a Catharine Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or Holy Family Elementary in care of the funeral home.
