Donald L. Diehl, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit.

He was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Guide Rock, Neb., to Dallas "Pete" and Hazel (Winslow) Diehl. He was a 1945 graduate of Burr Oak High School.

He married Lonnie L. Lewis in 1946. He later married Susan L. Abel in 1989. They made their home in Burr Oak for 17 years and in Mankato for seven years. During that time, he retired from farming and worked at the Mankato sale barn as a pen rider. He was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the Burr Oak school board and Jewel County Soil Conservation Board.

He enjoyed working with horses and in his later years developed a deep respect and love for mules.

Survivors include a son, Mac Diehl and wife, Cindy, Burr Oak; five daughters, Regi Wieland and husband, David, and Angie Holzmeister and husband, Ray, all of Oakley, Susan Abel, Mankato, Elizabeth Jeffery and husband, Marty, Northbranch, and Amy Bliss and fiance, Leo Nunnink, Shawnee; his grandchildren, Justin Wieland, San Diego, Benjamin Wieland, Oakley, Amanda Diehl, Grapevine, Texas, Emily Diehl, Lincoln, Neb., Ivy and Eden Diehl, Hickman, Neb., Brandon Beougher and wife, Jennifer, Dexter Bouray, Bailey Bouray and fiance, CJ Thompson, and Mattie Holzmeister, all of Oakley, JT Jeffery and wife, Jessica, Emporia, Sarah Jeffery, Manhattan, and Abby Bliss, Shawnee; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Wieland, Savannah Beougher and Shanlee Beougher, all of Oakley.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1962 and his mother in 1984.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kansas Community Center, Mankato; inurnment will follow in Northbranch Cemetery.

Friends can sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, both at Melby Mortuary Chapel, 402 N. High, Mankato.

Memorials are to be designated in care of the mortuary.
