Doris (Walters) Applehans

Doris (Walters) Applehans, 87, Hays, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City.

She was born July 20, 1926, in Severin to Peter and Mary (Staab) Walters. She was a 1944 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.

She married Sylvester "S.J." Applehans on April 19, 1948. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 2013.

She was a beautician for many years, owning and operating Doris' Beauty Salon. She was a charter member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Perpetual Adorers and an associate of the Sisters of St. Agnes.

She is survived by two sons, Allen Applehans and wife, Apryl, Yuma, Ariz, and Gary Applehans, Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Lois Applehans, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Francis, Edwin, William, Fidelis, Linus, Vincent, Clarence and Mathias; and seven sisters, Vera Pfeifer, Scholastica Leiker, Alexia Munk, Mary Ann Schulte and infants Lucida, Mary and Scholastica.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays; burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays.

There will be an Adoration Chapel Adorers Rosary at 4:15 p.m., Associates of the Sisters of St. Agnes Rosary at 5 p.m., a parish vigil service at 6 p.m., and a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 6:30 p.m., all Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Holy Family Elementary, HaysMed Hospice or Cancer Council of Ellis County.
