Doris Claire (Dorrie) Butler of Coral Springs, FL, passed away on January 29, 2012. She was born on December 22, 1922 in Jamaica, NY, to Mildred and Frank Ziegelbauer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Butler Jr., her son George Frank (Geoff) Butler, her parents and sister Helen (John) Dekoning, Evie Pleines and Milly Ziegelbauer.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Butler, Coral Springs, FL, grandson Michael Canellis, Coral Springs, FL, and nieces Susan (Frank) Elliott, Venice, FL, Holly (Eddie) Lidowski, West Babylon, NY, Joanne (Michael) Cappy, Northport, NY, Karen Pleines (Bill Sterba), Forest Hills, NY, Laura Burke, Jacksonville, FL and Ellen Pleines, Ferguson, MO. She also is survived by grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

Dorrie met her husband during World War II, and they were married on December 15, 1945. As she told it, her introduction to her husband's hometown was like a scene from the movie "Giant." She had come from New York to the wide-open prairie. She grew to love the people and town of Hays, Kansas. She assisted her husband in providing interior design services for his business, the Butler Furniture Company, while also raising her children, being active in politics as a Republican State Committeewoman and as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

An excellent bridge player and bowler, she took up golf in her 30s and won several amateur tournaments in Kansas and Florida, where she and her husband had moved to in 1967. Upon her husband's death, she worked as the Clerk of Court for the City of Wilton Manors, Florida, as the City's first Police Aide. This was truly her dream job. She loved going to work everyday because "no two days were alike and it was never boring." She always had unusual and humorous stories to tell about her work in the police department.

Dorrie was loved by all her knew her. She was the "house mother" for the police officers of Wilton Manors, and children naturally gravitated to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, even at the end of her life. She was a loving and giving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be truly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 5420 NW 33 Ave, Ste 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
