Earlene (Bretton) Steerman, 81, Gove, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Gove County Medical Center.

She was born July 25, 1932, in Gove to Earl and Hazel Della (Hannaford) Bretton. She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

She married Russell Steerman on Oct. 25, 1953, in Gove. He preceded her in death in 1971. She dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching, one year in Quinter with the remaining years in the Gove and Wheatland school districts.

Survivors include two sons, Robert, Grainfield, and David, Wamego; a daughter, Deborah Heideman, Alta Vista; a sister, Beula Wilson, Gove; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gove United Methodist Church; burial in Gove City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Memorials are suggested to Gove City Library in care of the funeral home.
