Earlin Arnold Mai, 85, rural Russell, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Wilson.

He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Russell to John J. and Katherine E. (Maier) Mai. He attended school in the Bender Hill area and graduated from Russell High School.

He married Janice Steinert on June 1, 1952. She preceded him in death June 21, 2008. He was a farmer/stockman.

Survivors include a son, Monty Mai, Russell; three brothers, Howard Mai, Russell, Walter Mai, Great Bend, and Clarence Mai, Wichita; a sister, Wilmetta Deutsch, Hoisington; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melo Dee Homeier.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church; burial in Trinity Lutheran Bender Hill Cemetery with military rites by Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Bender Hill Cemetery Fund in care of the mortuary.
