Ellene Earnest Davis, 90, Hays, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Canon City, Colo., to W.A. and Jessie Earnest. She spent her early childhood years in Chanute and Luray, then moved to Hays, where she completed high school and attended Fort Hays State University.

She married Jim Davis of Hays in 1940, and they lived in Bartlesville, Okla., for 27 years while Jim was with Phillips Petroleum Co. She returned to Hays after the death of her husband in 1973 and served as director of the Area Agency on Aging for 20 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and visiting her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Bill Davis and wife, Ruby Jane, Hays; a daughter, Cynthia Davis Beattie, Jackson, Miss.; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Tyler, Amy and Molly; two great-grandchildren, James and Andrew Weber; a sister-in-law, Dolores Earnest, Russell; two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Earnest and Gordon Earnest; and two sisters, Dorothy Earnest and Elva Stone McDonald.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Episcopal Church, Hays; private family inurnment will be in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens, Hays.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Ellene Davis Memorial Fund, in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel, 1906 Pine.
