Elma L. DeWald, 89, Salina and formerly of Russell, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Dignity Care Home, Salina.

She was born Dec. 25, 1919, in rural Russell County to Carl and Susanna (Dumler) Miller.

She graduated from Russell High School. She was a homemaker.

She married Doran Diel DeWald on Oct. 29, 1939, in Russell. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1991.

Survivors include three daughters, Juila Sitz, Nevada, Mo., Charlotte Wilson and Margaret Vosburg, both of Salina; two sons, Richard DeWald, Russell, and Stephen DeWald, Gladstone, Mo.; a brother, Bill Miller, Arvada, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doran, a daughter, Linda Austin, and an infant son, Thomas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Russell; burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Russell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
