Elsie A. Reidel

Printer-friendly version

Elsie A. Reidel, age, 102, of Ellis, died Saturday, June 28 at Ellis Good Samaritan Home. She was born March 3, 1906 on the family farm north of Ellis to Joseph R. (Big Joe) and Mary (Fries) Erbert. She married Adam H. Reidel on May 29, 1929. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1972.

Elsie was a resident of Ellis until 1961 when she and Adam moved to Lakewood, Colorado to be with her daughter and family. In 1987 she moved back to Ellis. Elsie was an outdoor enthusiast. She loved her early years on the farm, was an avid walker well into her 90's and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was recognized at an AARP celebration for her many efforts and assistance at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis. She cherished her friends at the Ellis Meal Site, was a dedicated lifetime member of the Bukovina Society of America. She enjoyed her role as a housewife, mother and a very special grandmother. A perfect example we all wish to be.

She is survived by two grandchildren Steve (Shawn) Geist and Jill (Marcus) Ruhnke, three great-grandsons Jay and Tracy Geist and Carson Ruhnke.

She was preceded in death by her husband Adam, daughter Nora Geist, son-in-law Wilfred Geist, sister Mary Shellhammer and brother William Erbert and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wed., July 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis. Burial to be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday 6:00 - 8:00 with a parish vigil service at 7:00 all at Wasinger Keithley Funeral Chapel of Ellis.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Ellis Good Samaritan Center in care of the funeral home. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all her caregivers at the Ellis Good Samaritan Home in her final years.
