Ethel Ann Gatschet, 72, Hays, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Victoria to Pius and Anna (Sander) Leiker. She was a 1957 graduate of Victoria High School and a 1960 graduate of St. Anthony School of Nursing, Hays.

She married George P. Gatschet on Sept. 10, 1960, in Victoria. She was a nurse at St. Anthony Hospital and was former owner of Flowers by Frances, working there as a bookkeeper until her retirement in December.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was a staunch supporter of Catholic schools.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; four daughters, Kathy Klitzke and husband, Rege, Wichita, Carol Staples and husband, Richard, Joyce Rupp and husband, Kevin, and Lisa Craig, all of Hays; two brothers, Robert Leiker and Laurian Leiker; four sisters, Armella Thompson, Aquina Rajewski, Theresa Haselhorst and Mary Ellen Schmidtberger; seven grandchildren, Kaitlan Klitzke, Jacob Klitzke, Erica Fisher, Maria Cutright, Richard A. Staples, Lesley Hagar and Danielle Craig; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; two sisters, Luella Dreiling and Rosaline Wiesner; three brothers, Gilbert Leiker, Elmer Leiker and Neon Leiker; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Staples, and an infant baby, Hagar.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas More Society at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School for the benefit of local Catholic education, a deep passion of Ethel's evidenced by her family's commitment and tireless support and prayer for Catholic schools through the years.
