Eugene 'Gene' Jacobs

Eugene "Gene" Jacobs, 83, La Crosse, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1930, in rural Bison to Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. He attended Lone Star School near Bison.

He married Rosie K. Stejskal on July 20, 1963, in Loretto. She preceded him in death June 22, 2004. He was a grain operator at the Bison Coop, where he retired after 20 years.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Sixty Plus Club, and Veteran of Foreign War Post No. 3147, all of La Crosse.

Survivors include two sons, Nick G. Jacobs, and wife, Darcy, Great Bend, and Michael D. Jacobs and his fiance, Jamie Sawicki, Larned; a daughter, Jacquelin S. Moses, and husband, Gary D., Alta Vista; seven brothers, Celestine Jacobs, Ralph Jacobs, LeRoy Jacobs and Bill Jacobs, all of La Crosse, Virgil Jacobs, Great Bend, Daniel Jacobs, Wichita and Jerry Jacobs, Hays; two sisters, Elenora Holzmeister, Quinter, and Mary Lou Warren, Wichita; four grandchildren, Kim Renz, La Crosse, Garrett Moses, Alta Vista, Ryan Jacobs, Great Bend, and Sherri Basgall, Garden City; and four great-grandchildren, Curtis Renz, Bayley Basgall, Shawn Gilbert and Jesse Basgall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Leona Leiker, Albina Birney, Louise Besperat and Viola Dreher.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, La Crosse; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Friendship Meals, La Crosse, in care of the funeral home.
