Eugene M. "Gene" Axelson, 82, Stockton, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

He was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Hays to Arthur and Edna May (Johnson) Axelson.

He married Betty L. Jacobs on May 5, 1954, in Plainville. He was chief of police for Stockton Police Department for 33 years.

Survivors include his wife, Stockton; a son, Randy Axelson, Stockton; three daughters, Patty Chesney, Woodston, Pam Hollern, Stockton, and Janet Brown, Natoma; a brother, Jim Axelson, Stockton; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, Stockton; burial in Stockton Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House-Sleepy Hollow or Solomon Valley ARC in care of the funeral home.
